The Tradeoff Articulation Prompt
This is more useful than RICE when you're deciding between two fundamentally different directions:
I'm deciding between these two initiatives:
OPTION A: [Describe it what it builds, who it serves, what outcome you expect]
OPTION B: [Describe it same]
My context:
Company stage: [early growth / scaling / mature]
The strategic goal this quarter: [describe it]
Key constraint: [engineering bandwidth / time / risk tolerance]
Help me analyze this decision by:
1. Articulating the core tradeoff in ONE sentence what are we actually trading off? (e.g., "short-term user satisfaction vs. long-term retention" or "new user acquisition vs. power user depth")
2. Listing the key assumptions behind Option A what would have to be true for it to be the right call?
3. Listing the key assumptions behind Option B same
4. Identifying which single assumption is the CRUX the one that, if we knew whether it was true, would make the decision obvious
5. Suggesting how we could test or validate that crux assumption before fully committing
Do NOT tell me which option to pick. I want the structured analysis.
