Question 1

Is Agent Reach really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It is MIT licensed with no hosted service and no paid tier, and the tools it installs are open source. The only cash cost the project mentions is an optional proxy of about $1 per month for server deployments or restricted networks. The real cost is account risk on cookie-based platforms.

Question 2

Which AI agents does Agent Reach work with?

Accepted Answer

It works with Claude Code, OpenClaw, Hermes, Cursor, Windsurf and essentially any agent that can run shell commands. The shell is the whole integration surface, so no special connector is needed.

Question 3

Is Agent Reach a scraper?

Accepted Answer

Not in the usual sense. It contains no crawler of its own. It selects, installs and monitors other open-source clients, and your agent calls those tools directly.

Question 4

Can Agent Reach post, comment or like on my behalf?

Accepted Answer

No. It is read-only by design. Write access to social accounts is where automated tools most often trigger restrictions, so the boundary is deliberate.

Question 5

Which platforms work without any login?

Accepted Answer

Web pages, YouTube, RSS feeds, public GitHub repos, Bilibili search, V2EX and Exa web search work without a login. Basic public LinkedIn pages can also be read through Jina Reader.

Question 6

Do I need a proxy to use Agent Reach?

Accepted Answer

Usually not on a personal laptop. On a VPS or hosted agent, datacenter IPs tend to get flagged by social platforms, so a residential proxy is recommended for the cookie-backed channels.

Question 7

Is it safe to give Agent Reach my cookies?

Accepted Answer

The software keeps cookies on your machine and is open to audit. The risk lies in the credentials themselves, because a cookie grants full account access and automated use can lead to a ban. The project recommends using a secondary account.

Question 8

What happens when a platform blocks one of the tools?

Accepted Answer

Each platform has an ordered list of backends. When one fails, the channel switches to the next working candidate, and maintainers reorder channels in updates. Running agent-reach doctor shows the current active route.

Question 9

Does Agent Reach support Chinese platforms?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It supports Xiaohongshu, Bilibili, V2EX, Xueqiu and Xiaoyuzhou podcasts, and Bilibili and V2EX need no configuration. Douyin and WeChat public articles are not supported.

Question 10

How is Agent Reach different from my agent's built-in web search?

Accepted Answer

Built-in search reads the public, indexed web. Agent Reach adds platform-specific access such as user timelines, full Reddit threads, video transcripts and Chinese social platforms. The two complement each other.
